Subsurface Texture Experiement by theederv Subsurface Texture Experiement by theederv
This should really be in scraps, but i like the image so I thought i' post it

Just an experiment with Sub Surface scattering, particles and specular colour

The polystyrene peanuts were fun, I generated them and let them fall into the box using particles, had fun making the shader for them, the box texture was straight forward enough but getting the specular to look like cardboard was challenging!

I know the cardboard is the wrong way round and the corrugations should be verticle, I also know it is missing two flaps from the sides, I cant be bothered to fix and re-render just now!

Thanks guys

Ben

It's a scale architectural model of Blue Monday [link] :-)

The room is a penthouse suite for the multi billion dollar business executive intending on opening up blue monday luxury apartments across the globe.

Try bump mapping the cardboard box to eliminate that perfect look, and you will end with something better.

Great job on the peanuts. I use SSS sometimes in Poser, depending on whether the tradeoff is worth it ;)

yeah it is very much about the trade off, i dont mind the extra render time tho :)

Thanks

Hahah, no way. You must've took a photo.

The textures look awesome. I like the shadow on the floor. Even the light reflection coming off of that looks real.
Great job!

I love when the simplest things become special. The textures and lighting are so awesome and realistic it nearly made me cry because I have no clue how to do that...

do you use cinema 4d?? If you do i'll setup an example scene for you ;)

I'm using 3dsmax and I'm thinking about a change. Especially the lighting is always kinda strange and unrealistic even with high values of global illumation and stuff. I use mental ray because my version of vray also crashes very often. The cinema4d renders are pleasing me much more... I don't own it anyway, but thanks for the offer...

Very nice lighting! I have no idea how to do SSS. It supposedly does work in blender but I have no idea how. Very cool render though. Look realistic. I like the textured shadow on the floor.

The shadow, yeah i think i got the diffuse and the bump map perfect on that floor texture, I stole the texture image from a floor tile website lol

Thanks man

Hah, well for a nicked photo it's pretty class :) No problems mate, it looks good. What's with the little pixels along the line where the floor meets the skirting board though? Is that to do with the bump map or just a GI error?

Nice stuff. I really hate the SSS Physical shader in Mental Ray, it never seems to come out right even following mental ray's tutorial with exact values.
